Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karlhans Wesche takes over the Chair and Institute,
Research focuses: industrial byproducts, coal fly ash

Second teaching and research unit established at the Institut by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans Rainer Sasse,
with the additional research fields of polymers and monument conservation
The following split occurred:

The Organic Building Materials Teaching and Research Area becomes a Chair

Chair of Inorganic Building Materials assumed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Schießl with the additional research areas: Reinforcement and Corrosion

First "Aachener Baustofftag“ (Aachen Building Materials Day), a conference which would become a tradition

Chair of Inorganic Building Materials assumed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Brameshuber and renamed Chair of Building Materials – Construction Materials, with the additional research area: Special Concretes

Chair of Organic Building Materials assumed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Raupach and renamed Teaching and Research Field of Building Maintenance and Repair,
with the additional research areas: Steel Corrosion and Corrosion Protection for Reinforced Concrete - 2014
For organizational purposes, the Institute of Building Research was split into two independent areas:
– the Chair of Building Materials with the Junior Professorship of Environmental Compatibility of Building Materials
and
– the Teaching and Research Field of Building Maintenance and Repair and Structural Polymer Composites in Construction - Previously
a) Establishment of a Junior Professorship at the Chair of Building Research:
Dr.-Ing. Anya Vollpracht receives the Junior Professorship of Environmental Compatibility of Building Materials. She is also the head of the Binders Working Group.
b) New Structural Polymer Composites in Construction Teaching and Research Area. This new area will be directed by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Oliver Weichold. - 2016
September 16 2016 Dead of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Brameshuber, aged 60. - 2018
In November 2018 the Institute of Building Materials Research had its 70th anniversary. A celebration with lots of former employees took place at SuperC at RWTH Aachen University. - 2019
At February 8 Dr.-Ing. Peter Schubert, head of the working group Masonry passed away. - 2020
In April Dr. rer. nat. Reinhard Rankers, former Head of the Chemistry Laboratory of our Institute passed away. - 2020
Since April 1 Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Matschei is the new Head of Chair of Building Materials Research
